We are seeking to appoint, for April 2017, an enthusiastic, motivated and qualified teacher of English to join the ambitious team of professionals in our school as second in department.  Therefore, we are looking for a candidate who will be an excellent classroom practitioner with the ability to inspire enthusiasm in students. The successful candidate will have high expectations in terms of standards and will be able to contribute effectively to the future of English and literacy in the school.  They will be expected to teach across the age range 11 – 18.

Job purpose

The successful candidate would be expected :

  • To raise the literacy levels of students across the school in conjunction with school teams and the Specific Learning Needs Director; focusing on students prior to entry to the school, particularly disadvantaged pupils and throughout their formative years at BWH.
  • To promote creativity in the use of written and spoken language with particular emphasis on producing fictional writing, poetry, debate and public speaking.
  • To promote a love of reading in the students - for pleasure; enhancement of cultural awareness; extracting relevant information and social awareness.
  • To promote the highest standards of learning and teaching in students’ formative years at BWH, supporting other staff in the development of their practice in conjunction with the school’s dedicated learning and teaching team.
  • Assist the curriculum leader of English in the design of the curriculum that promotes independent learning, especially in the formative years of secondary education.
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum, and the quality of learning and teaching, by tracking and monitoring. Inform the English curriculum team of necessary interventions to improve student performance.  Inform all staff in terms of literacy skills.

Salary NQT:  up to an additional £2,500 on normal starting salary.

Experienced: negotiable within the main or upper pay range, depending on experience 

REQUIRED FOR SEPTEMBER 2017

 

We are seeking to appoint a talented and engaging teacher of English to join an excellent team of professionals in our school.  If you have passion, commitment and resilience, and are driven to make a difference to the lives and futures of young people, we would like to hear from you.

The successful candidate will;

  • be a great classroom practitioner, with the ability to inspire enthusiasm in students.
  • have high expectations, in terms of outcomes, for young people
  • have a love for their subject that will see them contribute effectively to the future of English and literacy in the school. 
  • there would also be an opportunity to teach KS5 for the right candidate.

This post would suit either an experienced colleague or a newly qualified teacher [NQT].

 Our school is a successful 11 – 18 school with 839 on roll (110 in the Sixth Form); students achieve in excess of 80% at GCSE.  The department has a blend of experienced and younger staff.  This will provide opportunity for ambitious colleagues in a supportive environment that firmly has its eyes on developing the practice of teachers in the classroom.  Continuing professional development is well supported for all colleagues – indeed, it is actively promoted within the school’s improvement plans.
